About Nayarit

Nayarit, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Nayarit, is one of the 31 states that, along with Mexico City, comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided in 20 municipalities and its capital city is Tepic. It is bordered by the states of Sinaloa to the northwest, Durango to the north, Zacatecas to the northeast and Jalisco to the south.

In the state of Nayarit great adventures await you among natural wonders, beautiful beaches, islands, lagoons and mountainous regions.

 

It is located in the western region of the country, limited to the north with Durango and Sinaloa and to the south with Jalisco. Discover its wide variety of attractions that have made it popular among travelers from all over the world.

 

In Tepic, the capital city, you will learn about its colonial past through its museums and historical buildings such as the Catedral de Tepic (Tepic Cathedral) and the Exconvento de la Cruz (Ex-Convent of the Cross). The city is also home to various art, music and gastronomy festivals.

​Enjoy nature and the sun on its incredible beaches, visit Punta de Mita, Bucerías, Flamingos, Corral del Risco, Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Jarretaderas, El Anclote, Litibú and San Pancho.

 

The Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Sayulita is the favorite destination for surfers looking for the best waves and a relaxed atmosphere. This is also a good starting point to get to the “playa del amor” (love beach) at the Parque Nacional Islas Marietas (Islas Marietas National Park).

 

Another one of the Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) of Nayarit is Jala, where you can discover the El Salto waterfall, practice ecotourism around the Ceboruco volcano and admire the historic buildings of the region.

 

Compostela, also a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town), it will captivate you with its beautiful streets and colonial buildings such as the Templo de la Misericordia de San Santiago Apóstol (Temple of Mercy of San Santiago Apóstol) and La Hacienda Miravalles (Miravalles Hacienda, which dates back to the 16th century.

 

Nayarit’s gastronomy is recognized as an Intangible Heritage of the State and its flavor fusion makes it unique. Be sure to try the zarandeado fish, the chicharrón de pescado (fish rind) and traditional capirotada for dessert.

 

Nayarit is a wonderful holiday destination, its traditions, culture and attractions will make you fall in love with it.
